Simple Replacement of devices in a DALI project

Think of the following situation:
A device in a DALI line is broken and needs to be replaced, but at the site there is only an electrician available and noone has the knowledge to operate Sympholight.
Is it possible to just replace the broken device? Yes, but you need to know the short address of the broken device.
When preparing the replacement part before shipping to the project location, a simple replacement is possible.

Important:
Replace only with the same device type.
  • Do not replace ballasts of different kind like Intensity ballast with DT8 ballast.
  • Do not replace sensors with ballasts and vice versa.
  • Do not replace (old) OSRAM sensors with DALI2 sensors and vice versa.
  • Do not replace with different sensor types, like luminance sensor with movement sensor.
  • Do not replace devices, that have different hardware properties like luminance sensors with different resolution.
How to prepare
You can either use a DALI magic or other DALI programming device together with your PC, in order to set the short address.
Follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the programming device and software.
You can also use your PC with SYMPHOLIGHT a valid dongle or shared license and a SYMPL dali Node.
  1. Connect the device to the SYMPL dali Node and connect the Node to your PC and power on the DALI devices.
  2. Start Sympholight
  3. Add the SYMPL dali Node to your project
  4. In the Setup tab open the DALI view.
  5. On the right hand side select "Line#1" and wait until the line has been scanned.
=> You might see a speech bubble, that tells you that unadressed devices are present, if not proceed with step 7.
  6. Klick on the tools drop down list and select "Address only Unaddressed"
=> Your device will now receive a short address.
  7. Click on the Device and open the context menu, select "Modify short address" and select the right short address.
=> The short address of the device will be changed. Wait until the hourglass icons in the view are gone.
Now your device is programmed an can be replaced.
